The palatoglossus, or constrictor isthmi faucium, is closely associated with the soft palate. There are two muscles, one on each side of the |tongue|. The muscles connect the sides and upper region of the |tongue| to the rear of the palate (the soft palate). These muscles work together to lift the sides of the |tongue| to assist in swallowing. The genioglossus, the styloglossus, the palatoglossus and the |hyoglossus| work together to move the |tongue|.
